Bielstein Castle

The Burghaus (the "Castle"), built in 1720 by the Homburg Chancellery Councillor and Mining Bailiff Christian Schmidt, passed into the possession of the industrialist family Möller from Warstein in the mid-18th century, which led to the naming of the area around the Burghaus, in reference to the "Bilstein Caves" near Warstein/Sauerland.

It served as the seat of the municipal administration until 1901, when it was able to move into the newly built Amtshaus. The castle, owned by the city, must, due to the continuous influx of resettlers and asylum seekers, be necessarily prepared and occupied as accommodation.

Plans for establishing a small local history museum in the castle must repeatedly be postponed into the future for financial reasons. Only in 2008 was the castle renovated by the Wiehl entrepreneur Christian Peter Kotz and handed over to the city in June for the folk and music school and the library. Additionally, a community room and a wedding room were set up in the castle. However, an old intermediate ceiling was also removed and the old staircase was replaced by a modern elevator.
