Saint-Remi Priory of Haschbach am Remigiusberg

The Provostry of St. Remigius was founded around 1127 by monks from the Abbey of St. Remy in Reims. A document from Mainz Archbishop Adalbert I, dated October 8, 1127, confirms the establishment of the monastery. According to this document, the Benedictines acquired a castle that had been unlawfully built there, demolished it, and erected the monastic buildings in its place. The Counts of Veldenz, whose founder Gerlach I witnessed the founding charter, subsequently exercised the Vogt rights over the Remigiusland and the provostry. In the course of the Reformation in the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken, the provostry was dissolved in 1524. The Remigiusland, including the former monastery, was sold in 1552 to Count Palatine Georg Johann I of Palatinate-Veldenz, and the provostry church thereafter served as a burial site for the counts.

The Provostry of Remigiusberg is located on the Remigiusberg between Haschbach am Remigiusberg and Theisbergstegen in the Kusel district, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

Of the original monastic buildings, only the former provostry church remains today. It currently serves as the parish church for the Catholic parish of Remigiusberg. The former rectory, built in the 19th century on the monastery grounds, now houses an inn. Inside the church is the tomb slab of Count Friedrich I of Veldenz, who was buried here.
