The history of the Benedictine Provostry of Hohenberg dates back to before 1229, when the monastery was first documented. The complex was associated with the Benedictines and was under the patronage of Saint James the Elder, as recorded in 1332. Over the centuries, the monastery shaped the spiritual and cultural life of its surroundings until it was dissolved and secularized in 1460.
