The Provostry of Borna was established in 1327 and served as a center for the Benedictine Order. For nearly two centuries, it shaped the spiritual and cultural life of the surrounding area. In 1522, the monastery was dissolved and secularized during the Reformation. The provostry was consecrated to Saint Mary, highlighting its significance as a place of Marian veneration.
