Benediktinerkloster St. Peter, Erfurt (zuvor Kollegiatstift)

The origins of St. Peter's Monastery date back to the year 1009, when a collegiate church was founded on this site. Only a few years later, in 1060, Benedictine monks took over the collegiate church and transformed it into a Benedictine monastery. Under their leadership, St. Peter developed into an influential religious and cultural center in the region. Over the centuries, the Benedictines shaped life on Petersberg until the monastic complex was dissolved during secularization.

The former monastery of St. Peter is located in the city of Erfurt, which lies in the center of the federal state of Thuringia in Germany. It is situated on Petersberg, a prominent elevation that significantly contributes to Erfurt's cityscape.

The historic buildings of the former monastery are now part of the Petersberg Citadel and bear witness to the site's eventful history. Although the original monastic use has ceased, the architectural traces of the Benedictine era remain visible and are integrated into the later fortress complex.
