The monastery was founded in 1101 by Count Erpo von Padberg and his wife Beatrix von Nidda. This foundation, built on Beatrix's allodial property, received extensive lands and proprietary churches as endowments. However, as early as 1104, the monastery in Boke was dissolved due to an inheritance dispute following the childless death of the foundress Beatrix. Her brothers claimed the inheritance, whereupon the monastery was relocated to Flechtdorf. There, it was re-settled by Benedictine monks from the mother monastery of Abdinghof near Paderborn, with the majority of Landelinus' relics also being transferred to Flechtdorf.
