The convent of Unterliezheim was founded in 1026. For centuries, it served as a center of Benedictine life for women. The convent was dedicated to Saint Verena of Zurzach and Saint Leonard. Its existence as an independent monastery concluded between 1541 and 1543, when it was dissolved during the Reformation or other upheavals.
