The foundation of Ottenhausen Monastery took place shortly after the year 1116, when a community of Benedictine nuns established themselves here. Under the patronage of Mary, the monastery developed into a spiritual center. Over the centuries, the Benedictine order shaped life in Ottenhausen until monastic existence came to an end before the year 1543. The dissolution of the monastery marked the conclusion of a history spanning over four hundred years.
