Benediktinerinnenkloster Niederprüm

The convent of Niederprüm was founded in 1190 by Abbot Gerhard von Vianden of Prüm to accommodate Abbess Sophie von Vianden and other nuns after the destruction of Susteren Abbey. It was a foundation for noble ladies. In the 15th century, the convent adopted the statutes of the Bursfelde Congregation. The rights of Prüm Abbey over Niederprüm transferred to Trier in 1576. The convent church, dedicated to the martyrs Gordian and Epymach, housed their relics. The official dissolution of the convent occurred in 1802 as part of the secularization.

The convent of Niederprüm is situated in Prüm-Niederprüm, a district of the town of Prüm in the Bitburg-Prüm district, in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

The current convent buildings date from the 1670s and were expanded in the 18th century. Since 1920, the Vincentian Order has owned the complex and operates a gymnasium there. The Church of St. Gordianus and Epimachus served from the outset as a dual church for both the convent and the parish.
