Herz-Jesu-Kloster

The convent's foundation dates back to 1890, when the Benedictine nun Josefine Karoline von Fürstenberg-Stammheim, after returning from exile in Tegelen, established a new community with thirteen sisters, initially on Domstraße in Cologne. Five years later, in 1895, the community moved into the newly constructed Herz-Jesu-Kloster on Brühler Straße in Cologne-Raderberg, whose construction was financed by von Fürstenberg-Stammheim with her own assets. Shortly after the move, the foundress passed away and was buried at the convent. Around 1925, the number of nuns reached its peak at approximately 70. In August 2022, the convent comprised 30 sisters. In July 2022, Sr. Veronica Krienen OSB was elected Prioress, succeeding Emmanuela Kohlhaas, who held the office from 2010 to 2022. In August 2022, five sisters were sent to populate the newly founded Katharinenkloster in Düsseldorf-Angermund. The convent buildings in Cologne were designated as historical monuments in 1982.

The convent is situated in the Raderberg district of the city of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The convent buildings continue to serve as a home for the community of Benedictine Sisters and, due to their protected status, are a testament to regional architectural heritage and history.
