Benediktinerinnenkloster Klosterwald

The origins of the monastery trace back to 1170, when a chapel dedicated to St. Marx existed in the forest. This chapel was demolished in 1594 and rebuilt on a new site. In 1681, the Benedictine convent of St. Anna was founded. Construction began in 1685 following designs by P. Lambert Katan, but continued from 1714 according to plans by P. Christoph Vogt. The monastery church was consecrated in 1729. After suffering war damage in 1800, the convent was dissolved in 1805 during the secularization. A comprehensive renovation of the church took place in 1954.

Klosterwald is situated in Kloster Wald, a district of Ottobeuren in the Unterallgäu region of Bavaria, Germany.

The monastery church of St. Anna is integrated into the north wing of the four-winged convent complex, projecting by three axes. Its chancel is semicircularly closed and surrounded by a sacristy ambulatory. The nave is covered by a gabled roof and features a two-story gallery. Inside, the church houses numerous polychrome wooden figures, including Saints Maurus and Placidus from the mid-18th century, a Madonna in a dress of ears of corn, and an unpainted crucifix from around 1500. The Stations of the Cross comprise 15 stations, with the last one located in the monastery corridor. The pulpit, dating from around 1800, is crowned by a figure of St. Mark the Evangelist. The marbled wooden altar from 1729 displays life-sized wooden figures of St. Benedict and Scholastica, with the Sacred Heart in the altarpiece's upper section.
