Belvedere
The Belvedere in Neubrandenburg is a viewpoint above the northwestern steep bank of Lake Tollense.
Duke Adolf Friedrich IV had a summer house built in 1775 on the heights south of the village of Broda and named it Belvedere (beautiful view). This house was later demolished and rebuilt in Beguinenstraße in Neubrandenburg.
In place of the old Belvedere, Grand Duchess Marie had a new house in the form of a Greek temple built in 1823 by master builder Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel. The rectangular plastered building took on the form of a Doric prostylos.
In 1934/35, the Belvedere was converted by Heinrich Tessenow into a memorial for those who fell in the First World War, which no longer exists today. From 1994 to 1996, the building was extensively restored. From the Belvedere, one has a wide view over Lake Tollense.
