Hundsheim Tower

Hundsheim was first mentioned in a document in 1123 as "Hundesheim". A "Regenhart de Hundesheim" was named as a witness at that time. The old noble family, which bore the name Hundsheim, was already known in the country during the time of the first Babenberg dukes. Later owners were Jans von Brunn, Jörg von Hundsheim, and from 1535 into the 20th century, the Counts of Walterskirchen.

In the village, there were five fortified towers, two of which are still preserved today and are listed as historical monuments. These are parts of fortifications dating from the 13th century. These tower-like structures were located in the farmhouses near the front door. They were equipped with loopholes and had a raised entrance. The towers served as a refuge during predatory attacks. They could be easily defended and at the same time offered a good view.
