Basilika von Son Peretó

The exact period of the basilica's construction is not known, but it is believed to have served as a Christian place of worship by the end of the 4th or beginning of the 5th century. Tragically, the structure likely fell victim to a fire in the 7th or 8th century. The rediscovery of the basilica began in 1908 when a farmer uncovered a floor mosaic during fieldwork. From 1912, the priest and amateur archaeologist Joan Aguiló i Pinya, who had acquired the site, led the first excavations. The artifacts and mosaics recovered were later incorporated into the collection of the Historical Museum of Manacor. Since 1931, the excavation site has been registered as an archaeological monument and is continuously researched and restored.

The Basilica of Son Peretó is located on the Spanish island of Mallorca, within the municipality of Manacor, near the border with Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. The site is situated at an elevation of approximately 111 meters above sea level.

Visitors can explore the well-preserved remains of the former church. The excavation site is open to the public, offering a direct view of the foundations and structure of the historic sacred building.
