Augustinerinnenkloster (Glindfeld)

The former Augustinian convent of Glindfeld, consecrated to Mary and Lawrence, is a historical site in the Hochsauerlandkreis, North Rhine-Westphalia. It bears witness to a long history of monastic life in the region.
History+
The existence of the monastery is documented from shortly before 1177. The Augustinian nuns, originally based in Küstelberg, were relocated to Glindfeld at the end of the 13th century, specifically in 1299. This move was ordered by the Archbishop of Cologne, Wigbold von Holte. The construction of the convent church proved challenging due to limited funds and was only completed after 1338. Initially started in Romanesque style, the building was redesigned into a Gothic hall church during its construction. In the 14th century, the convent suffered from economic difficulties, necessitating the sale of assets. Towards the end of the 15th century, the convent was severely dilapidated due to mismanagement. In 1499, it was dissolved and converted into a monastery for the Canons Regular of the Holy Cross.
