Kloster Hane

The monastery was founded around 1120 by Werner von Bolanden as a proprietary monastery. Initially, Augustinian canons from Springiersbach were called to the site. A document from Archbishop Adalbert I of Mainz from 1129 confirms the donation of the monastery to the episcopal see of Mainz, with Werner von Bolanden retaining the hereditary patronage. Soon after, Augustinian nuns also settled there, creating a double monastery. Around 1135, the convent adopted the Rule of Saint Norbert and joined the Premonstratensians. After a temporary separation of the sexes, during which the nuns returned to Hane, they remained there until the dissolution of the community. The monastery gained wealth through donations and attracted many nobles. In 1265, the number of nuns had to be limited to 50. From 1487, the Romanesque basilica was converted into a Gothic church. Plundered in the Peasants' War in 1525, the monastery was dissolved around 1564 under the Duke of Palatinate-Simmern during the Reformation. During the War of the Palatinate Succession in 1689, the complex suffered destruction by French troops. After various changes of ownership, the monastic complex served as an agricultural estate, and the church as a barn. Extensive renovation work took place from 1957 to 1992.

Hane Monastery is located in the Rhineland-Palatinate municipality of Bolanden in the Donnersberg district.

The desacralized monastery church and the convent buildings are preserved as an ensemble. The renovated church now serves as a concert and event hall.
