The Antonite General Preceptory of Lichtenberg was founded before the year 1273. The Antonite Order, a hospital order dedicated to caring for the sick, established one of its important branches here. Over the centuries, the monastery played a role in the local and regional context before it was dissolved and secularized around 1530 during the Reformation. This period marked the end of its monastic function.
