Ancient City Mycenae (Μυκήνη)

Individual finds indicate that Mycenae was settled as early as the Neolithic period, before 3500 BC. During the Early Bronze Age, pre-Greek groups resided here, maintaining active contacts with the Cyclades. Around 2000 BC, Mycenae was settled by Indo-European immigrants who initially engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. The city experienced its golden age in the 14th and 13th centuries BC and remained continuously inhabited until the 5th century. In 468 BC, Mycenae was conquered by the Argives, and its walls were razed. Although resettled in the Hellenistic period and equipped with a theater, the city was finally abandoned in the 3rd century BC. Already in Roman times, the ruins became a tourist attraction due to their literary significance.

The ancient city of Mycenae is located in Mykines on the Peloponnese in Central Greece, Greece. It stands at an elevation of approximately 241 meters above sea level.
