History+
Mieza was an ancient Macedonian city in the Emathia region, situated between the modern cities of Beroia and Edessa, near present-day Naoussa. Its precise location is no longer fully known today. The city gained fame for its Nymphaeum and as the place where Aristotle taught Alexander the Great from 343/342 to 340/339 BC. Peukestas, one of Alexander's trierarchs, hailed from Mieza. From the 3rd century BC onwards, the site developed into a city and was integrated into the network of regional cities, evidenced, for example, by its reception of festival envoys from Delphi.
