The ancient city of Kourion, also known as Curium, is a significant archaeological site on the southwest coast of Cyprus. It impresses with well-preserved remains of a once-flourishing city, offering deep insights into the island's history.

The origins of Kourion likely date back to the 13th century BC, indicating an early settlement. The city was first mentioned in writing in 673/672 BC on the Kition Stele under the name “Ku-ri-i”. In Roman times, Kourion was a center for the worship of Apollo Hylates, whose sanctuary was located nearby. The city experienced a period of prosperity in the 5th century AD, as evidenced by the magnificent Villa of Eustolios. Archaeological excavations have uncovered numerous buildings, including a theater with sea views from the 1st to 2nd centuries AD, an agora, and an early Christian basilica. Notable finds include the House of the Gladiators and the House of Achilles, named after their impressive mosaics. The Earthquake House, which contained skeletons of residents and animals, also testifies to a sudden end caused by a natural disaster.
