History+
The origins of Brixia date back to the Celtic Cenomani, who maintained a settlement here. In 225 BC, the city became part of the Roman Empire after the Cenomani submitted to the Romans. Emperor Augustus established a civil colony in Brixia in 27 BC. Later, during his reign, Vespasian had a large temple erected in the heart of the city. This structure, dedicated to three deities, served as a token of gratitude for the support of the city's inhabitants during his candidacy for emperor.
