Mildenberg Manor

To be privately owned

The Ansitz Mildenberg, a historic manor and estate house, is located in the picturesque upper town of Bregenz in Vorarlberg, Austria. Originally known as "the Count's Orchard," it bears witness to a long history and is now a private residence.

History+

In the 15th century, Ansitz Mildenberg was a manor house belonging to the Counts of Montfort, who named it for the surrounding fruit trees. As the last Montfort possession in Vorarlberg, the Bregenz-Hofrieden dominion was sold in 1523 by Count Haug of Montfort-Pfannenberg to Archduke Ferdinand of Austria. Count Haug retained lifelong residency rights. From 1523, the Ansitz served as an Austrian administrative building for the Hofrieden court. From the 16th to the 19th century, ownership frequently changed hands between noble, bourgeois, and monastic proprietors, including the Lords of Villenbach around 1546. Between 1608 and 1612, the Bregenz chronicler Christoph Schalk resided here. Later, the Ansitz belonged to Weißenau Abbey and in the 18th century to the von Deuring family. Extensive renovations took place in 1898, 1955, and 1979, with the building being extended in 1955.
