Old Castle Pappenheim
The Old Castle is the former residence of the Marshals of Pappenheim, and stands within the old town of the Middle Franconian city of Pappenheim at Graf-Carl-Straße 13.
The previous noble seat, today's Pappenheim Castle ruins, was no longer considered sufficiently good, which is why in 1593 Wolf Christoph zu Pappenheim added the Old Castle to an older building. The master builder was Franz Joseph Roth. The building remained the residence of the Marshals of Pappenheim until the construction of the New Castle.
Architectural Description+
While the exterior facade was built in the Renaissance style, the interior decoration from the 16th to 18th centuries is late Gothic and early Neoclassical. The surrounding buildings of the castle courtyard, including an orangery and several pavilions, collapsed in 1953. The main building is three-storied and is adorned by polygonal, four-storied corner towers with spires.
