Old Castle Bad Muskau

The current Old Castle was originally the gatehouse of an old fortress, converted into an administrative seat by Curt Reinicke II. von Callenberg. Its designation as “Old Castle” dates back to Prince Hermann von Pückler, who needed a historically evocative building as a status symbol for his landscape park. The main facade of the building faces the town and is adorned with an impressive baroque entrance portal featuring the double coat of arms of the Callenberg and Dohna families. After being heavily damaged in World War II, the building was reconstructed. The original stone sculptures of former owners in the niches above the entrance, installed in 1863, had to be replaced in 1974 by new symbolic figures created by Dresden sculptor Werner Hempel.

The Old Castle Bad Muskau is situated at approximately 101 m above sea level in the town of Bad Muskau, in the Görlitz district, Saxony, Germany.

Today, the Old Castle Bad Muskau houses the registry office and the town's tourist information center. A small concert hall is also located in the converted attic.
