History of the Building+

A predecessor building was already mentioned in 1105 as being in the possession of Bebo von Venningen. In 1711, the court was rebuilt under the Lords of Dalberg.

From the Lords of Venningen to the Lords of Dalberg

The first documented mention of a building on this site dates back to 1105, when it was owned by Bebo von Venningen. Over the centuries, the property changed hands several times, until it came into the possession of the Lords of Dalberg in the early 18th century. They undertook a comprehensive new construction of the court in 1711, which significantly shaped the current appearance of the building.

The "Commander's Building"

In the 19th century, the building served as the seat of the commander of the Dilsberg fortress, which earned it the name "Commander's Building". During this time, it played an important role in the military administration of the region.

Architectural Features+

The "Old Castle" is characterized by its impressive architecture, which reflects the different construction phases. The building combines elements of Baroque and later architectural styles.

Baroque Elements

The new construction in 1711 under the Lords of Dalberg brought significant Baroque elements to the building. These include the stately facade, the ornate window frames, and the spacious interior design.

Later Modifications

Over the centuries, the building was repeatedly modified and adapted to the respective needs. These later modifications, however, largely preserved the Baroque character of the building and integrated harmoniously into the overall appearance.
